Effects of crossed columnar defects on vortex pinning in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8

چکیده

To investigate the existence of a splay effect in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (Bi-2212), vortex pinning has been studied in different configurations of strongly inclined columnar defects (75◦ from the c axis), installed by heavy-ion irradiation. It is shown that the symmetry of the track setting with respect to the field direction is a more influent parameter than the presence of a dispersion in the track directions. We claim that the enhanced pinning efficiency which is observed in some splayed configurations of columnar defects in Bi-2212 can be interpreted without invoking a splay effect. Imaging atomic-scale effects of high-energy ion irradiation on superconductivity and vortex pinning in Fe(Se,Te)

Maximizing the sustainable supercurrent density, J C, is crucial to high-current applications of superconductivity. To achieve this, preventing dissipative motion of quantized vortices is key. Irradiation of superconductors with high-energy heavy ions can be used to create nanoscale defects that act as deep pinning potentials for vortices. This approach holds unique promise for high-current app...

Vortex Washboard Voltage Noise in Type-II Superconductors

In order to characterize flux flow through disordered type-II superconductors, we investigate the effects of columnar and point defects on the vortex velocity / voltage power spectrum in the driven non-equilibrium steady state. We employ three-dimensional Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations to measure relevant physical observables including the force-velocity / current-voltage (I-V) characterist...

Evidence for vortex staircases in the whole angular range due to competing correlated pinning mechanisms

We analyze the angular dependence of the irreversible magneti-zation of YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 crystals with columnar defects inclined from the c-axis. At high fields a sharp maximum centered at the tracks' direction is observed. At low fields we identify a lock-in phase characterized by an angle-independent pinning strength and observe an angular shift of the peak towards the c-axis that originates in...

Localized Flux Lines and the Bose Glass

Columnar defects provide effective pinning centers for magnetic flux lines in high–Tc superconductors. Utilizing a mapping of the statistical mechanics of directed lines to the quantum mechanics of two–dimensional bosons, one expects an entangled flux liquid phase at high temperatures, separated by a second–order localization transition from a low–temperature “Bose glass” phase with infinite ti...
